Good News on Road Re-surfacing

There is good news for residents in Speen, Shaw and Donnington who are growing tired of the numerous potholes in local roads - a comprehensive resurfacing plan by West Berkshire Council will see many of the worst affected roads re-surfaced in the next two years.

In Speen, Brummel Road, Kersey Crescent, De Montfort Road, Coxeter Road and Lewendon Road are all due to be re-surfaced in 2011, with Grovelands Road being scheduled for 2012.

Donnington's Shop Lane will also be resurfaced in 2011, while in Shaw Owen Road and Love Lane are both scheduled for 2012

Residents may also like to know that you can report pot holes in roads and pavements to West Berkshire Council's Streetcare team, who will arrange for the hole to be filled. You contact the Streetcare team by phoning 01635 519080, or e-mailing customerservices@westberks.gov.uk

Three playgrounds in the area - Digby Park (Digby Road), Speen Recreation Ground (Station Road), and Donnington Recreation Ground (Oxford Road) now have new playground equipment in place.

The new equipment was financed by the Playbuilder Scheme, a Government funded scheme to provide improved play facilities for children.

At Digby Park, the installation of the new play equipment is now complete, and includes a football and basketball wall, a climbing/rock wall, and gym equipment for use by both children and parents.

Speen Recreation Ground has gained new swings, a roundabout, and an actiivity area with rope walks, fireman's pole, climbing chains, slide, and balance board. A fenced area for small children has also been introduced, the work having been completed in March 2010.

Following a public planning session in December, Donnington Recreation Ground has seen the removal of the old swings and climbing bar, and a completely new set of play equipment installed. This work was also completed in March 2010.
